Description:

The 5G networks must meet the market demands for wide bandwidth, large coverage, stable connectivity, low latency, and reliable timing synchronization, particularly in crowded and high-precision industrial automation environments, 5G NR to NR dual connectivity(NR-DC) networks offer a solution to these requirements, and timing synchronization resiliency provides a consistent and fault tolerant timing synchronized network. A hybrid network can be established with NR-DC to take advantage of the strengths of both Sub-6 GHz and Millimeter Wave technologies and offset their weaknesses, therefore operators can extend network coverage and increase network capacity to provide a better overall user experience while still maintaining a reasonable total cost of ownership. This project will deliver commercial grade reference design of 5G dual connectivity Millimeter Wave Radio Access Network that supports (1) NR-DC protocol and procedures (2) New key NR-DC features including a. Packet Data Unit(PDU) session split b. Fast link recovery c. Early Measurement Reporting (3) Timing synchronization resiliency feature A number of companies have shown strong interests in collaborating with ASTRI and adopting our technologies to be developed from this project. Initially engaged customers include a network equipment vendor and a Millimeter Wave antennas vendor.
