Description:

On one side, Hong Kong is a world’s renowned gems and jewelry exhibition and trading hub. On the other side, Hong Kong is in lack of technology support in the jewelry inspection and certification. Under the regulations of industrial standard and China national standard, the jewelry industrial will enter the era of industry 4.0. However, the local jewelry companies are in lack of automatic equipment for it. In this project, we aim to develop an all-round optical system with the integration of both white light and UV illuminations, and both image and spectral detectors from multiple viewing angles. With such collected all-round data, the attached software with trained algorithm will then evaluate the diamond's authentication, clarity grade, and color grade automatically and precisely. Moreover, such an automatic equipment will be able to be extended to investigate the grades and defects of other jewelry items, such as color gem, jade, peal, and gold jewelries, as well. Such a development makes a powerful tool for the professional use of automatic jewelry inspections. It is essential for the further implementation of industrial 4.0 in the jewelry industry. It further supports Hong Kong as a smart city and an international center for professional services with the leading technique and standard.
