This project aims to develop a converter system suitable for megawatt-scale energy storage applications, in order to optimize the system efficiency of energy storage power stations and improve the reliability and safety of their operation. The system mainly involves three core components. The first one is a battery cluster converter based on third-generation semiconductor technology. The second one is an optimized control strategy that meets the flexible charging and discharging needs of battery clusters. The third one is a high-speed communication technology and integrated management algorithm that processes heterogeneous data from the battery management system (BMS), energy management system (EMS), and power conversion system (PCS). The system enables fine control of battery clusters, avoiding efficiency reduction and fire risks caused by inter-cluster current circulation, slowing down battery decay rate, and lowering the operation and maintenance costs of energy storage power stations. The application of third-generation semiconductor technology in the megawatt-scale energy storage field through this project can further consolidate Hong Kong's technological advantages in power electronics and energy storage, as well as open new market opportunities. The project participants are well-known power industry manufacturers from mainland China, which can quickly turn the project outcomes into products and secure the launching opportunities in the global market.
