ASTRI Welcomes the Development of Hong Kong Park of Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone Development Outline Guides Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Growth, Promotes Industry Connectivity in the Greater Bay Area

[20 November 2024, Hong Kong] The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) welcomes the HKSAR Government’s announcement of the “Development Outline for Hong Kong Park of Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone” (the Development Outline) which establishes clear goals and guidelines for the overall strategy, planning and layout for the development of the Hong Kong Park.

Ir Sunny Lee, Chairman of ASTRI, expressed his support for the government’s announcement of the Development Outline, stating that it will help build an internationally competitive base for pilot production and transformation in Hong Kong. The Outline aims to create a comprehensive and high-quality innovation and technology ecosystem that further strengthens the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao industry-academia-research platform. He said, “This is a significant step in promoting Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development together with the Mainland, bringing new opportunities for high-quality economic growth and new quality productive forces. This will also help Hong Kong become a more vibrant international innovation and technology centre.”

The “Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone” is the only collaborative innovation platform featuring “one river, two banks; one area, two parks,” gathering high-tech talent and resources. ASTRI is among the first Hong Kong institutes to set up in the Shenzhen Park. Ir Sunny Lee said, “ASTRI will actively collaborate with stakeholders in the Greater Bay Area, including many industries mentioned in the Development Outline concerning transformation and pilot production. We will explore more core frontier technologies in fields such as artificial intelligence and data science, advanced manufacturing, and new energy. These will help enhance the efficiency of transformation and support the development of emerging industries, aiming to leverage technology to empower new quality productive forces.”

The Development Outline highlights the promotion of various industries, including artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, intelligent connected vehicles, and autonomous driving, all of which are ASTRI’s core research and development areas. ASTRI will continue to play its role as a “super connector,” promoting collaboration among government, industry, academia, and research, facilitating the collaboration of Shenzhen-Hong Kong in Hetao and the industrial transformation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, contributing to the nation’s development of new quality productive forces.
